3.0 Score
Valimai, written and directed by H. Vinoth, is quite honestly a major letdown. The film stars Ajith Kumar, Karthikeya, Huma Qureshi, and Gurbani Judge. The film score has to be one of its better parts. It is not a surprise as it was composed by Ghibran and the songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
The major reasons for the movie to be a letdown are the predictable plot, trite speech, and the fact that the film is almost entirely of action scenes which wouldn’t be a bad thing if it didn’t feel like a drag. The action scenes took up so much time that there was little opportunity for character development as a result, there is no emotional connection to any of the characters in the picture. The editing could have saved some of the movies but it was terrible cut together. It is good to see Ajith in the film but that alone can’t save a film. This, I believe, is the biggest letdown this year.
Valimai deserved so much more from the filmmaker. I waited 2.6 years for this film to be released before choosing FDFS only to receive a mess of a movie.
