Kevin Hart’s Vegan Chain Hart House Abruptly Shuts Down All Locations

Kevin Hart’s vegan fast-food chain, Hart House, has unexpectedly shuttered all four of its locations in Los Angeles. The closure marks the end of a venture that launched in 2022 to offer plant-based alternatives to traditional fast food. The menu featured items like burgers, chicken sandwiches, shakes, and tots, all made from plant-based ingredients, catering to the growing demand for vegan options.

Hart House’s closure comes as a surprise, given its initial success. The chain was built on the idea of providing healthier fast-food choices while also redesigning the labor model with better wages and employee benefits. The brand had aspirations of expansion, with plans to open more locations in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, as well as the development of a consumer packaged goods (CPG) line called Hart Foods, which would have brought their signature plant-based items into grocery stores and schools. However, despite these ambitious plans, Hart House’s doors have now closed.

The challenges faced by Hart House reflect broader issues in the plant-based fast-food market. After an initial boom following the pandemic, several other vegan fast-food concepts have also experienced setbacks, with some closing locations or shutting down altogether. Brands like Veggie Grill and Wild Thing have also struggled, signaling that the plant-based market, while growing, remains highly competitive and volatile.

Though no detailed reason for the closures has been given, Hart House posted a message on social media expressing gratitude and hinting at a “new chapter.” The statement leaves open the possibility of future developments, but for now, the chain’s journey appears to have come to an end.
