Nayanthara’s recent Tamil movie “Annapoorani” faces allegations of hurting religious sentiments and promoting ‘love jihad.’ The film, initially released on Netflix, has been taken down following complaints by right-wing activists.
Bajrang Dal and Hindu IT Cell founder Ramesh Solanki separately filed complaints against Nayanthara and others, accusing the film of intentionally demeaning Lord Ram and promoting ‘love jihad.’
Specific scenes, including one with Nayanthara’s character offering namaz and another suggesting Lord Ram’s consumption of meat, are at the center of the controversy.
Ramesh Solanki has demanded an FIR against Nayanthara, director Nilesh Krishnaa, and others. However, no action has been taken as Solanki is yet to appear before the police.
The term ‘love jihad,’ alleging Muslim men’s concerted effort to convert Hindu women, adds a contentious layer to the controversy.
