The highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian has hit theatres today, July 12, 2024. Titled Indian 2: Zero Tolerance, this Tamil-language vigilante action film, directed by S. Shankar and produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, promises a cinematic extravaganza.
Kamal Haasan reprises his iconic role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante. The story picks up with Senapathy returning from Taiwan to support Chitra Aravindhan, a whistleblower exposing corruption through internet videos. The ensemble cast includes Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, and others, adding depth to the narrative.
Announced in September 2017, the project faced delays due to a tragic accident in 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming, which began in January 2019, wrapped up in March 2024. The technical crew features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Ravi Varman and R. Rathnavelu, and visual effects by V. Srinivas Mohan.
With a final length exceeding six hours, Indian 2 has been split into two parts, with the second part, Indian 3, slated for release in 2025. Released worldwide in standard and IMAX formats, Indian 2: Zero Tolerance promises an action-packed, emotionally charged journey that continues the legacy of its predecessor.
